Nothing makes me happier than to find a song that makes me feel like it was created in the 80’s, and I somehow missed it. Italian-American electronic band Out Run released their first single in 2022, and they’ve just released a new banger entitled, “Monster.”
If you were one of those people that ran to download Kate Bush’s “Running Up that Hill” after it was on Stranger Things, then this band will have you listening to their tracks on repeat.
Monster takes indie vocals a la Billie Eilish via singer and lyricist Ginevra Abbarchini, and mashes it up with The Bangles and an 80’s synth melody that is quite literally chef’s kiss. The song came about in the studio when band members Lawrence Fancelli and Niccolò Messeri decided to create a synthwave pop tune inspired by the sound of The Weeknd.
Ginevra says “Monster is an allegory of a period of my life that marked me deeply. Relationships which were supposed to be the pillars our lives were to be built upon, changed to the point of being unrecognizable, morphing into monsters ready to swallow us.” Out Run is an Italian-American electronic band formed by Ginevra Abbarchini, Lawrence Fancelli and Niccolò Messeri in Florence in 2022.
